Answers to Common Event Questions

Who can participate in Literacy Chicago events?

Most events are open to community members, donors, volunteers, students, and their families. Some activities, like training sessions or small workshops, may have limited capacity or specific audience guidelines, which will be noted in the event description.

How do I register for an event?

Each event listing will include a registration link or contact information. For races or ticketed events, you will be directed to a partner registration platform; for free community events, a simple RSVP form or email is usually all that is required.

Do event fees or race registrations support Literacy Chicago?

Yes. When an event includes a registration fee or suggested donation, a portion of the proceeds directly supports Literacy Chicago’s free adult literacy, ESL, GED, citizenship, and digital skills programs. Some events also offer promo codes or charity partner options so you can ensure your participation benefits our students.

Can my company or organization sponsor an event?

Absolutely. Corporate and community partners help underwrite event costs, provide in‑kind support, and amplify our impact. Sponsorships can include logo placement, recognition at the event, and opportunities for employee engagement. Interested organizations can contact our team using the sponsorship link on the Events page.

Are there other ways to be involved?

Yes. You can volunteer at events, form a cheer squad, create a peer‑to‑peer fundraiser, or simply donate in honor of an event. There are also year‑round opportunities to tutor, host supply drives, or invite Literacy Chicago to speak with your workplace, faith community, or club.

Are events family‑friendly?

Many events, especially community gatherings and celebrations, are designed to be family‑friendly. Details about age guidelines, accessibility, and activities for children will appear in each event description so you can plan accordingly.
