Richard Dominguez – Executive Director

Education:

Biography:
Mr. Richard Dominguez joined the Board of Directors for Literacy Chicago in 2008 and transitioned to become Literacy Chicago‘s Treasurer in the fall of 2010. Mr. Dominguez accepted the role as Executive Director for Literacy Chicago in December 2013. He joined Literacy Chicago because he wanted to make a difference to assist individuals in learning how to read and write after watching both of his parents struggle throughout the years with a limited education.  His parents also faced the same challenges as many of the Literacy Chicago students where English is not their first language.

Prior to joining Literacy Chicago,  Mr. Dominguez was an entrepreneur who owned two successful small businesses and was a Vice President/Corporate-Commercial Transition Project Manager for Bank of America Corporation.  During Mr. Dominguez’s 25 years of being in the financial industry he has developed and has established a proven track record with his progressive leadership skills, client and employee education training programs, risk analysis and budget management abilities.

Mr. Dominguez brings a wealth of knowledge and experience into his current role as Executive Director for Literacy Chicago. Richard has a passion for learning.  He is also an advocate for helping people within the Chicagoland communities to develop and to reach their literacy goals. He hopes to raise more awareness for this important and vital adult education organization.


June C. Porter – Director of Adult Literacy

Education:
B.A., English, Baker University

Biography:
Over 20 years working with Literacy Chicago’s volunteer tutoring program, Citywide, and various other philanthropic endeavors.

As long as there is a need for adults to be able to read and speak, we need to be there to support them.


John Mosman – Administrative Assistant

Education:
A.A., Liberal Arts, William Rainy Harper College
B.S., Management, Cardinal Stritch University

Biography:
Prior to attending Harper College, John enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the 1st Cavalry Division in Vietnam and in Germany with the 1st Army Division. He spent most of his career in distribution/logistics mainly with the Sara Lee Corporation. After graduating from Cardinal Stritch University, John became an Account Executive for Telephone and Data Systems (TDS) then moving into Business Analyst positions. While at TDS, John facilitated and taught The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People course. Currently In his role as Co-Chair of the Membership Committee at Countryside Church Unitarian Universalist in Palatine, IL, he facilitates the Path to Membership Class. John is married with two children, five step-children and three grand children. He is retired and is pleased to bring his experience and knowledge to assist Literacy Chicago in fulfilling its mission.


Marilyn Murchison – Office Operations Manager

Biography:
Marilyn Murchison is the Office Operations Manager at Literacy Chicago. She has been with the organization for over seven years overseeing all office functions and managing grant reporting and compliance. Marilyn attended community college in Chicago studying Business Administration and worked at a variety of offices before joining the Literacy Chicago team. She is the face of Literacy Chicago for all that come in need of educational services.


Debbra Florentin  – ESL Coordinator and Instructor

Education:
B.A., Sociology and Asian Studies,University of Illinois – Chicago
CELTA Certification (English Language Teaching to Adults)

Biography:
Debbra began to grow an interest in teaching English when she studied abroad in Hong Kong in 2005. After graduating from university, her goal was to travel and teach. She has obtained her goal and taught English overseas in Asia since 2007. She has found great pleasure in teaching English and now she would love to apply the skills acquired abroad to our community and to Literacy Chicago as an ESL teacher and coordinator. She has been with Literacy Chicago since 2012.


Andrea Kelton – Lead ABE/GED Instructor

Education:
M.A. Teaching Reading, Learning Disabilities Certification

Biography:
Taught 12 years in a Michigan elementary public school as a Learning Disabilities consultant/self-contained classroom teacher. Taught Adult Basic Education at Literacy Chicago since 2005.

Fulfill your potential. This is my goal for the adult learner.
